Pricing Tiers for Salon Owners, Distributors and Retail Chains
If you’ve ever gotten a wholesale hair quote that felt like it was pulled out of thin air, you’re not alone. We’ve spent 12 years talking to salon owners, regional distributors, and national retail chain buyers out of our Guangzhou warehouse, and the biggest source of frustration we see is opaque pricing that doesn’t line up with what you actually need to run your business. This isn’t a fancy marketing sheet with fake “elite” tier names—it’s the real breakdown of pricing tiers for salon owners, distributors and retail chains, what you get at each level, and which tier actually makes sense for you, no upsell attached.
Tier 1: Small salon, regular reorder, no bulk hoarding required
This is the tier 70% of our new customers start in, and it’s built for single-location salons doing 10-25 extension services a month, independent stylists, and braiders who’ve outgrown buying overpriced stock from their local beauty supply. The MOQ here is $350 per order, no long-term commitment, no requirement to buy 50 bundles of the same length or texture. You can mix 12” curly bundles, 24” straight packs, closure pieces, whatever you have booked for the next 4-6 weeks, no hoarding required. Have you ever bought 20 extra bundles just to hit a random minimum, only to have them sit in a closet for six months? That’s exactly what we built this tier to avoid.
Per-unit pricing here is 15-20% off our public listed rates, which works out to $62-$78 for a standard 100g virgin hair bundle, depending on length. For context, that’s $20-$30 less per bundle than you’d pay buying from a US-based middleman who marks up stock they imported themselves. You won’t get custom packaging or a dedicated account rep here—orders go through our regular weekly consolidated air freight shipment, so lead time lands at 7-10 business days to most US addresses, and you can lock in pricing for 30 days at a time, since raw hair costs shift with harvest cycles and global shipping rates. Most buyers in this tier mix and match weft hair for sew-in services and a handful of tape-in packs for their repeat monthly clients, no pressure to stock lengths or textures you don’t have booked for the next month.
The downsides? Rush shipping costs full DHL retail rates, since we don’t subsidize fast shipping for small orders, and we can’t hold stock for you if a popular texture sells out before you place your order. We also don’t offer returns on opened bundles, same as every other wholesale hair supplier, so order sample pieces first if you’re testing a new texture.
Tier 2: Multi-location salons and micro-distributors, where the real margin starts
Once you’re running 2-5 salon locations, or selling hair to 5-10 local stylists out of your suite, you’ll hit the volume for this tier. The MOQ is $1,800 per order, and per-unit pricing drops 30-38% off base rates, putting that same 100g virgin bundle at $47-$61, depending on length. That’s enough margin to add a 70-80% markup and still price your services or retail stock competitively with other businesses in your area.
At this level, you get free custom hang tags with your logo when you order 50+ units of a single texture, your orders move up our fulfillment queue so lead time drops to 5-7 business days, and you get a direct point of contact who can flag stock shortages before you place your order, so you don’t end up short 10 bundles of 18” body wave the week of prom. You can lock in pricing for 90 days, which is a lifesaver when raw Burmese hair prices jump 10% overnight during monsoon season, when harvests slow to a crawl. You’ll also have enough margin to offer higher-margin services like k-tip installs, since you can stock k-tip hair at a rate that lets you price services competitively without cutting your own pay.
If you don’t want to tie up thousands in inventory sitting on your back shelf, this is the first tier where salon consignment deals are on the table—we don’t offer those for entry tier buyers, because the admin and restock coordination doesn’t pencil out at lower order volumes.
The tradeoffs? You need to hit that $1,800 minimum every 60 days to stay in the tier, no exceptions. We had a three-location salon group last quarter that came in $80 short on their order and lost their tier pricing for 30 days, which cost them about $240 on their next order—frustrating for them, and frustrating for us, but we can’t hold discounted rates for accounts that don’t hit the volume we need to cover our costs. Custom hang tags also have a 2-week lead time separate from order fulfillment, so don’t wait until the week before a big launch to send us your logo.
Tier 3: Regional distributors and small retail chains, built for consistent volume
This tier is for distributors covering a 2-4 state region, small beauty supply chains with 6-20 locations, and online resellers moving $15k+ of hair a month. The MOQ here is $8,500 per order, with per-unit pricing 45-55% off base rates. That 100g virgin bundle drops to $34-$46, depending on length, which leaves enough room for you to mark up 100% and still undercut competing wholesale suppliers in your market.
Perks here include full custom packaging (hang tags, branded poly bags, custom bundle wraps if you want them), 3-5 day lead time on all in-stock items, and stock alerts for high-demand textures that sell out fast (20” loose wave, for example, moves out of our warehouse every 10-14 days between March and June). You can lock in pricing for 6 months, and you get first dibs on limited-run stock like raw Cambodian wavy, which we only get 80-100 bundles of each month. Most buyers at this level stock a full core lineup, including bulk hair for braiding, since braiders are a fiercely loyal customer base that buys consistently through every slow retail season.
If your end goal is to get into local beauty supply locations, this tier’s margin structure gives you enough breathing room to cover slotting fees and in-store promotions without wiping out your profit—we break down those costs in our guide to getting hair on retail shelves, if you’re just starting those conversations.
The downsides? You need to hit that $8,500 minimum every 45 days to keep your tier status, and we require a 25% deposit on all orders to hold production space and raw material for you, since we can’t risk setting aside high-demand hair for an order that falls through. Custom colored orders add 3 days to lead time, no rush exceptions, because we process those batches separately to avoid color bleed onto natural virgin stock, and we don’t accept returns on any custom packaged items.
Tier 4: National retail chains, custom everything, no surprise fees
This is our highest volume tier, built for national beauty supply chains with 20+ locations, large online retailers doing $100k+ a month in hair sales, and subscription box brands that include extensions in their monthly kits. The MOQ here is $35,000 per production run, with per-unit pricing 58-65% off base rates. That works out to $26-$37 for that same 100g virgin bundle—low enough that you can run BOGO promotions, loyalty program discounts, and in-store sales and still hit 60%+ gross margins.
At this level, you get fully custom private label service, including exclusive texture blends if you want a product no other retailer carries, direct coordination with our logistics team to match your warehouse’s labeling and routing requirements, and pricing locked in for 12 months, even if raw hair costs or international shipping rates spike. We also assign a dedicated quality control specialist to your orders, so every bundle is checked for weight, shed rate, and cuticle alignment before it leaves the factory.
The tradeoffs are straightforward: the MOQ is non-negotiable, even for first orders. We’ve had national chain buyers ask to drop the minimum to $15k to “test” the line, and we can’t make that work—our margins are thin enough at this tier that we can’t cover the cost of custom production, dedicated support, and reserved raw material without that volume commitment. We also require quarterly volume forecasts 30 days in advance, so we can source enough raw hair to meet your needs without delays.
The tier mistakes we see every single week
We don’t structure tiers to pressure people into buying more hair than they need. Our costs drop sharply when we can process larger, more consistent orders, so we pass those savings directly to buyers who can hit those volume numbers. That said, we see the same avoidable missteps month after month:
- New salon owners who take out a small loan or put a huge order on a high-interest credit card just to hit the distributor MOQ, then end up sitting on 80 bundles of 30” straight hair that doesn’t sell for 8 months, tying up cash they could have used for marketing, chair rentals, or staff pay.
- Established regional distributors who keep placing small, top-off orders at the entry tier to “avoid tying up cash” and end up paying 20% more per unit than they qualify for, costing themselves $3,000-$5,000 a year in lost margin.
- Small chain buyers who assume they need the top national tier to get custom branding, when the regional tier offers fully branded packaging for a quarter of the MOQ.
If you’re not sure which tier you actually qualify for, or what order size makes sense for your current sales, just ask. We’d rather tell you to start small and grow into a higher tier than watch you overbuy and sour on the whole process.
Quick answers to the questions we get every week
Can I move up tiers mid-year if my volume jumps?
Absolutely. We don’t make you wait for a quarterly review or jump through hoops to get better pricing. If you place a single order that hits the next tier’s MOQ, you get that tier’s pricing on that order, and we’ll bump your account status so you keep that rate for future orders as long as you hit the required order minimums on schedule. We’ve had solo braiders move from the entry salon tier to the regional distributor tier in 18 months when their client base blew up on social media, and we adjusted their pricing the second their first qualifying order hit our system.
Do you ever discount tier pricing for first-time buyers?
Short answer: no. We don’t run fake “70% off” sales or jack up base prices just to mark them down for new customers. The tier pricing is the real, sustainable rate we can offer at each volume level, no gimmicks, no hidden fees. If you want to test quality before placing a large order, you can grab a single sample bundle for $55 shipped to check texture, shed rate, and color match, no strings attached.
What happens if I miss a tier minimum by a small margin?
We know slow seasons happen—January and February are slow for almost every salon and retailer, no matter how good your marketing is. If you’ve been in a tier for 6+ months with consistent orders and you come in within 10% of the minimum, we’ll give you a one-time grace period to keep your tier status for another order cycle. If you’re way under the minimum, or you miss two order cycles in a row, we’ll drop you back to the next lower tier until your volume picks back up. No penalty fees, no awkward sales calls, just a straightforward pricing adjustment.
At the end of the day, our pricing tiers aren’t designed to reward people who can afford to buy the most hair just to say they get the best rate. They’re built to line up with your actual business costs, so you don’t waste money on inventory you don’t need, and you don’t leave hard-earned margin on the table when you’re moving enough volume to earn a better rate. If you’re ready to place an order, or you just want to talk through which tier makes sense for where your business is right now, reach out to our team. We don’t do hard sells, we won’t push you to buy more than you need, and we’ll give you the straight story on what works, based on what we’ve seen work for thousands of buyers over the years.
