CIS Countries Sales: Translating Hair Listings That Convert
CIS countries sales usually break down over tiny details, not price. If a Russian listing hides the weight or calls a weft a “hair strip,” buyers in Almaty or Moscow keep scrolling. Here’s how we fix that.
CIS countries sales start with terms, not poetry
Russian is common for B2B hair sales across Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan, but habits differ. Use formal “вы,” avoid literal translation, and remember borrowed terms like “боди вейв” are normal.
Product type beats poetry. For bulk hair, use “волосы без тресса” or “россыпью,” not a phrase meaning “big hair.” For hair on a track, buyers look for “тресс” or “трессовое полотно.” Keep it basic: texture, color, length, weight.
Texture names need both Russian and search slang
Use the common industry term plus a short Russian descriptor. Straight is “прямые волосы”; body wave is “боди вейв” or “естественная волна”; deep wave is “глубокая волна”; water wave is often “вотер вейв”; kinky curly is usually “афро-кудри.” Pick one name across English and Russian, show the dry curl pattern, and note tighter curls look shorter.
The spec block has to match the bag
This is where returns start. CIS buyers expect grams and centimeters. List 50 cm (20″), 55 cm (22″) or 60 cm (24″), and say curly hair is measured pulled straight.
- Weight: 100 g per bundle, 50 g per tape pack, or 1 g × 100 K-tip strands.
- Color: keep codes like #1B, #27, #99J and P1B/27.
- Material: “100% человеческий волос” only if true; disclose blends.
- Weft: for weft hair, state machine- or hand-tied and if it can be cut.
- Tape: for tape-in hair, list piece count, tab width and replacement time.
Don’t say Remy or cuticle aligned unless the factory supports it. On budget hair, admit it may need more conditioner or not hold color as long. Buyers accept tradeoffs, not surprises.
Prices, duties, and lead times belong near the top
CIS buyers calculate landed cost. State currency, MOQ, payment terms, and who clears customs. If your MOQ is 50 packs, say so. Production often runs 7–15 business days after confirmation; rail or road delivery adds more time, so don’t quote courier times for every order.
Return rules should cover return shipping, unsealed packs and color-match reviews. Tape tabs and bonded tips usually can’t be returned once backing is removed.
Machine translation is a draft, not a salesperson
Machine translation mixes up weft, braid, strand and bulk. Have a native Russian speaker who knows hair review it. If you use AI first, our AI product descriptions guide notes where it helps and gets sloppy.
Some buyers search Cyrillic; others search English terms like body wave. A clear title can read “Волосы на трессе, 100% человеческие, 60 см (24″), 100 г, #1B.” If you use Shopify, our Shopify product pages guide covers layout: type, specs, shipping, and returns. Start with ten top SKUs in 18–24 inch straight or body wave.
Quick FAQ
Should every term be pure Russian?
No. Keep codes and borrowed terms like #1B and “боди вейв.”
Cm or inches?
Use centimeters first, with inches in parentheses. For curls, state length measured straight.
Can I launch with machine translation?
Only as a draft. Have a native hair pro review it; one wrong weight term can spark disputes.
